Old stories, beliefs, and understandings of what it means to be a man seem to fall short and no longer serve you. New, healthy narratives and understandings have yet to emerge fully, leaving you feeling lost, confused, or disconnected.

Traditional markers of masculinity – strength, stoicism, and self-reliance – often fail to capture the complexities of modern life and the experience of being a man in it. This disconnect leads to isolation, frustration, and even anger as men grapple with societal expectations that no longer resonate with their experiences.

Mental health challenges affect everyone, but men are often less likely to seek help due to these traditional gender expectations. Data indicates that we are at a higher risk for conditions such as depression, anxiety, and substance abuse, yet only about 35% of men receive mental health treatment.

We experience loneliness and emotional distress but lack a clear path to healing. Men’s work provides a space for exploration and healing, allowing you to redefine what it means to be a man in today’s world. It encourages vulnerability, self-reflection, and connection, helping you break free from outdated paradigms and cultivate a more authentic sense of self.

Narrative Therapy is an approach that helps you explore your stories about masculinity and how cultural expectations and personal experiences have shaped them.

Through Internal Family Systems (IFS), I will help you identify and engage with the different parts of yourself that influence your understanding of masculinity. What defense mechanisms have you developed – such as emotional suppression, aggression, or avoidance – to navigate societal pressures?

Although such behaviors once served you, they can now hinder your ability to authentic relationships. Recognizing and nurturing these parts can facilitate healing and integration within your internal system.
